8th Grade Media

8th Grade Media Productions is a quarter-long course in which students explore the components of media productions including: working as a team, the elements of video production, producing videos, and developing a professional attitude.

Students are expected to complete the assignment modules that explore these topics which will culminate with a final project that will be added to the student's media portfolio.  The media portfolio is an evaluation tool that can be used to showcase a student's talent in producing media.  The high school media program will evaluate the portfolio of a student after their 8th grade year to determine their placement in courses at the high school.

The hard deadline for all assignments is two days prior to the end of the quarter.  Any assignment may be resubmitted for a higher grade as long as it is turned in before that date.

ELL C/D 6,7,8

These courses are dedicated to helping students acquire basic English skills while learning core academic skills and knowledge.  This will be accomplished through the study of five major components of reading- phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.  Students will learn basic survival terms and content area words.  We will concentrate on promoting oral language development and interaction. Students will work independently, cooperatively, and as a whole class.

Weld-Re4 and WMS has decided to use Inside the USA by National Geographic and Hampton-Brown.  This curriculum concentrates on the unique attributes of Middle to High School students in order to help them become fluent in English. Students will receive multiple assessments throughout the year in order to help gauge their understanding of the English language.

Classroom Standards:

  • Respect Others
  • Be in the Moment
  • Be ready to learn when the tardy bell rings
  • Use appropriate body language, eye contact, and feedback
  • Ask Clarifying Questions
  • Teacher dismisses students, not the bell

Good Attending Skills:

  • Eye Contact
  • Sitting up in Seat/Desk
  • Hands/feet in own space

Classwork & Practice: The main goal of this class is to get students fluent in English.  Students will be expected to participate and complete classwork daily.  I believe in revision and improving one’s work.  Students will have every Friday to revise class work or complete daily work.  Most daily work will not be given a grade, but completion of assignments will be

tracked in the grade book. Unsatisfactory, or incomplete, assignments will be counted as “missing” and will negatively impact a student’s grade. Students will receive a “complete,” Incomplete,” or “Missing” on each assignment.

Assessments/Goals: With the help of each student, I will create individual goals and benchmarks for each student to obtain each quarter.  The use of assessments will help determine whether or not each student meets their individual goal.

Habits of Work and Learning: Because success in language acquisition depends on a person’s commitment to practice and willingness to learn and participate, students will be assessed on the following three categories.

  • Participate
  • I make a positive contribution to class.
  • I stay on task.
  • I seek help when necessary
  • Produce
  • I can complete work on time.
  • I strive for neatness.
  • I revise and improve my work
  • Prepared
  • I use systems to keep my work organized.
  • I bring what I need to class.
  • I am mentally present

Grading: Grading will be weighted as follows:

Work Completed: 60%

Habits of Work and Learning: 30%

Meeting Individual benchmarks/goals: 10%

Weld-Re4 y WMS a decidido usar Inside the USA by National Geographic and Hampton-Brown.
