About the teacher information

Hello all! My name is Michelle Bortz and I am entering my sixth year in education. I was born in New York, grew up in California, moved to Wyoming in 2010, and now I am growing roots in Colorado. I graduated with my BS in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and my MA in education from UWYO. Last spring I graduated with my MA in ECSE and a certificate in Teaching Students with Autism from UNC.

This year your child will strengthen their social skills, learn how to problem solve and learn how to be respectful of others. I believe elementary education provides a place where your child can gain a sense of self, explore, play with their peers, and build confidence. I welcome you to become involved in your child’s learning! You know your child best and parent partnerships make a difference so please join me for a wonderful year of learning!

Here are a few of my favorite things: holidays, coffee, Target, live music, sour/gummy candy, the mountains, traveling, baking, running, crafting, swimming, reading, and family time!

When I was 5, I was pretty sure I’d be a veterinarian when I grew up because I love animals. When I was growing up, we had two fish, one dog, three rescue cats, two birds, and a box turtle!

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be teleportation. My sister lives in California and I do not like driving in snow, and I do not like getting stuck in traffic! It would be nice to go from one place to another without traversing the physical space between them.

My favorite children’s book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the all-time classic picture book from generation to generation. The way Eric Carle creates his illustrations makes them so colorful and appealing to all.
